Over 2.75 lakh applications were received during the two-week-long registration process in Delhi University, surpassing last year’s tally of 2.5 lakh pre-admission forms received both online and offline for its four-year undergraduate courses.

The clamour for admissions in DU colleges is now set to enter the second phase with colleges releasing their first cut-off list on June 24.

The university saw a huge rush on the last day of submission of forms, taking the total number of offline forms received by the varsity to 1,26,704.

To cope up with the last day rush, the varsity had asked colleges to accept forms until 3 pm, unlike the usual 1 pm deadline.

At Daulat Ram College, where students made a beeline to fill common pre-admission forms, the counters remained open till 4 pm.

The college sold over 785 common pre-admission forms and received over 1,568 submissions on the last day, a university official said.

Off-campus colleges also saw a huge rush. Some 1,700 students in east Delhi submitted their forms on Monday at Shyam Lal College.

Helpdesks set up by student unions saw nervous admission seekers asking for correction fluid. “Thankfully, the college extended the timings. Going by the rules, they were to accept forms only till 1 pm,” Lhusino Sale, who ran a student helpdesk at Daulat Ram College, said.

With applicants flocking to the admission counters, vehicles moved bumper to bumper. Photocopiers, soda vendors and rickshaw wallahs had more customers than usual.

“Aaj toh last date hai admission ka (Is today the last day of admissions)?” a rickshaw wallah said.

Many admission seekers preferred to opt for online mode of registration due to the sweltering heat. According to figures released by the university at 6 pm on Monday, a total of 2,40,611 students registered themselves online.

The varsity received applications online till Monday midnight.
