KEA adds 1,547 more engg seats

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) on Tuesday added as many as 1,547 engineering seats to the seat pool. This comes in addition to 51 architecture and 133 dental seats, that have been added to the seat matrix. 

According to a press release from KEA, the engineering seats added are: Reva University (233); BLDEA, Bijapur (311); NITTE, Bangalore (405); Siddartha Institute of Technology, Tumkur (335); GSSS, Mysore (216) and GSS, Bangalore (47). 

In dental courses, seats have been added to Sri Venkateshwara Dental College, Bangalore (14); KVG Dental College (35); HKDET, Humnabad (14); KGF Dental Science College (14); Dayanand Sagar Dental College, Bangalore (21); SJM Dental College, Chitradurga (21) and Sharavathi Dental College, Shimoga (14). 

Apart from this, seats have been added in Sharada School of Architecture (34) and SJB School of Architecture (17). 

Also, the State government has received details about seats in a few more engineering colleges that are yet to be added to the list. Seats from Cauvery Institute of Technology,  Mandya (135) and Jain Acharya Institute of Technology, Bagalkot (81) figure among the pending list. 

This apart, the KEA is yet to add about 120 seats in M S Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences. The government is also yet to update details of PES University and CMR University. Meanwhile, confusion prevailed over the status of these universities. 

While some government officials claimed that these were deemed universities, others classified them as autonomous institutions and state universities. Clearing the air, PES University CEO Prof D Jawahar said they fell under the category of private varsities. All these varsities should give 40 pc of their seats to the government' seat pool.
