'Introduce Humanitarian Law at UG level'

Thirty two Vice-Chancellors and other academicians from law universities and conventional varsities attended a conference on the subject on Tuesday at the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) here.

In his talk on International Humanitarian Law (IHL), VC of NLSIU, Prof Venkata Rao impressed the growing need for the subject. “IHL begins where suffering begins and it has nothing to do with peace-keeping. It is simply about the process of justice for victims of war,” he said.  Rao added that the biggest obstacles had been lack of awareness and lack of teaching expertise. “IHL is simply what used to be called Law of War and then Law of Conflict Resolution. ” he said.
