Asha workers on Thursday threatened to go on a State-wide strike if their demands were not addressed soon.
Over 1,600 workers under the Centre of Indian Trade Unions have been protesting since June 24 requesting the regularisation of pay and other facilities. Minister for Health and Family welfare, U T Khader who met the protesters, had requested them to call off the strike. He had assured them that a meeting would be held regarding the same soon.
Protesters said that even as they were told to call off the strike, there was no assurance given from the minister that the issue would be resolved. They have asked the State for reimbursement for the phone calls made to hospitals and the department, and also insurance cover, employment security, separate office at PHCs, food and security during work.
