Admit students under RTE, HC tells schools

Last Updated 26 June 2014, 20:28 IST

The High Court on Thursday directed Vidyaniketan and Vidyashilpa schools to admit students under the RTE quota as per the BEO’s instructions.

Justice S Abdul Nazeer passed an order after hearing the petition filed by S Mithun and 23 other students who had approached the court seeking admission to first standard under the RTE Act.
The advocate representing Vidyashilpa withdrew the petition after they could not establish that their institute enjoyed linguistic minority status.

The bench passed an order that the school must open their admissions to all the students as per the instruction of BEO.

In another petition, 22 toddlers had approached the High Court seeking admission for LKG under RTE at Sri Vani School in Rajajinagar.

Justice A S Bopanna ordered that since the school has not secured the ‘minority’ status, it cannot reject admission to the children under RTE. The bench said that as the children’s names were listed for admission, the school is directed to admit them.
