A 24-year-old Indian man in Australia was today jailed for six years for raping his inebriated Facebook friend, also an Indian.

The man, who emigrated to Australia in 2009, invited the 18-year-old girl to his home last year and offered her alcohol before raping her and filming the act to blackmail her later.
They first met on Facebook and used to meet up to play video games, The Age reported.

Judge Liz Gaynor while sentencing the man for six years with a non-parole period of three years and six months said the victim took a few sips of raspberry vodka mixed with cola before feeling sleepy on the couch.

"Her next memory was waking up on the floor in your bedroom," judge told the man.
The man had pleaded guilty to two charges of rape, one charge of assault and one charge of intentionally damaging property.

"Your offending is grave and involved not only sexual degradation of an innocent young woman. It was compounded by your filming of it and your use of it to manipulate her, adding to her already considerable stress. It was cruel behaviour," the judge told the man.

The victim, the child of a traditional Indian family, now felt shock, guilt and lived in fear, he said.
