The victim, identified as Nimisha, had moved to the City two years ago. She was reportedly in a relationship with Durgaprasad, also a techie and a native of Andhra Pradesh. Their families had consented to the wedding, but there were differences about wedding rituals, the deceased’s father Jagamohan told the police.

According to the police, Nimisha discussed the wedding rituals with her uncle on Wednesday at 9 pm. Sometime later, her uncle called her up, but her cellphone was switched off.
Later that night, Durgaprasad went to the PG facility only to find her hanging from a ceiling fan, added the police.

Police have identified the victim as Meriyamma, 22, a resident of Arasu colony in Tilaknagar. She hailed from Tamil Nadu and had married Suresh, a plumber, two years ago, said the police.

According to the police, Suresh was an alcoholic and would often return home drunk everyday. The couple would have regular fights over the issue and Meriyamma had picked a quarrel with Suresh on June 22, after he came home that night in an inebriated condition, added the police.

She had poured kerosene over her body and threatened to kill herself if Suresh did not give up drinking, but he did not promise. She then set herself ablaze and a stunned Suresh rushed her to the hospital with the help of neighbours.
