Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt were recently in the City to promote their new release, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania.

At a press conference, the actor of ‘Student of the Year’ and Main Tera Hero shared a few insights about his new movie, his relationship with Alia and his interests besides acting.

He instantly stole everyone’s hearts with a namaskara and danced to ‘Saturday’, a popular number from the movie.

“Bangalore is a great City. It is extremely warm and gives positive vibes. The night life here is exciting and what surprised me is that the Punjabi song is becoming popular here,” he says.

Throwing a bit of light on his new film and character, he adds, “The movie is a 2014 love story. I play a character called Humpty, who was named so because he was fat when he was small. I love this fiery and feisty girl called Kavya. My father played a big role in sharpening my acting skills throughout.  All he wanted me to do was to put a smile on everyone’s face and at the end of the day, I just want to keep my audience happy.”

Varun, who has emerged as a sensation after ‘Student of the Year’, says, “Each film comes with different shades and different directors and so, the way one would work would also vary. The director of this movie, Shashank, is from a theatre background and hence conducted a lot of workshops. Since I played a boy from the North, I researched heavily on my character. I am more like a Mahesh Bhatt actor and Alia is more like a David Dhawan actress.”

He says that after doing two films together, he and Alia have learnt to respect each other. “My most memorable moment was on the third day of shooting.

Alia and I were on a bench opposite a water body and we just had to look into each other’s eyes on set. It was a very touching moment,” he says.

After his first movie with Alia, rumours spread around about their chemistry and people nicknamed them ‘Vaaliya’ but Varun chuckles as he talks about his chemistry with her.

“We are always in a love-hate relationship. She has slapped me about 24 times in this shoot,” he adds.

When in doubt, Varun always relies on his natural instinct. “We are all humans and we tend to think a lot. It is best to trust your natural instinct at such times.”

He says that he disconnects with his characters by watching ‘Family Guy’ or spending time with his family.

Apart from acting, Varun says that he loves watching football and wants Brazil to win this World Cup.  “In my journey, I have learnt that nothing replaces hard work,” he adds.
