Do not give false information, officials told

MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary said “Social Welfare Officer had informed the last Karnataka Development Programmes review meeting that shoes and uniforms have been distributed to the students of Morarji Desai Residential School.
However, I found that shoes were not distributed to students, when I paid visit to Kolnad Morarji Desai Residential School.”

Pending tax
About Rs 5 crore tax is pending in Dakshina Kannada district. This include Sullia taluk—96 lakh, Mangalore taluk— Rs 1.85 crore, Bantwal—Rs 13 lakh, Puttur—Rs 12.26 lakh, Belthangady —Rs 12 lakh, said an official.

ZP member Pramod Kumar said the water supply system in Gram Panchayats will be proper, if it is handed over to water users for its maintenance.
Kodgi said “to strengthen Gram Panchayat system, we are handing over maintenance of basic infrastructures to Gram Panchayats. If the Gram Panchayat power is curtailed, then the entired system will be sidelined.”

Lack of will power
Zilla Panchayat CEO Shivashankar said Dakshina Kannada district tops the state in the installation of water metre.

Kodgi said “installation of water metre is not important. In many gram panchayats, even after installing water metre, the progress is zero. There is lack of will power in installing water metre. As a result, water is being wasted. Elected representatives should see that water is not wasted.”

False information
Mangalore, Bantwal Taluk Panchayat EOs said that Ashraya housing schemes have achieved progress. However, ZP members raised objection and said that the officials are providing false information.
 
CEO Shivashankar said Zilla Panchayat had prepared an action plan of Rs 376 lakh and the developmental works have been implemented. However, Rs 188 lakh has been released to the district. For the maintenance of 7,914.89 km road, Rs 19.78 crore is required. Government has released only Rs 167 lakh. Under 12th Finance Commission, Rs 9.17 crore must have been released for the maintenance of the road. However, it has not been released so far. Rs 38 crore grant is essential for the drinking water projects in the district. In 2009-10, government released only Rs 7.70 crore. Zilla Panchayat President Santhosh Kumar Bhandary and others were present.
