People irrespective of caste and class took part in the grand procession that was organised as part of Srinivasa Kalyana Mahotsava.

The procession commenced at 3 pm from Gayathri Kalyan Mantap and proceeded through the Basavanahalli main road, Hanumanthappa Circle and MG Road to culminate at the district stadium. It was the time of sunset when the procession ended.

The 3.5 km stretch where the procession proceeded had been decorated in a grand manner. People offered their prayers to the idol as the shobhayatra passed in front of their houses. The entire city was  seen drenched in the festive fervour. Additional security had been deployed in sensitive areas.

MLA C T Ravi, JDS leader S L Bhojegowda, Dasa Sahitya Bhajan Mandali’s Uday Simha were leading the procession. Around 10,000 people took part in the event.

Tuskers and crackers

Two tuskers afraid of the crackers burst during the procession caused apprehension among the people for some time. The elephants ran haphazardly when crackers were burst, which made the people to run for their dafety. However, the mahouts controlled the elephants
within a few minutes and took them to the premises of taluk office.

Later, they were again taken with the procession. However, some members of the public expressed their disappointment over bringing timber-loading elephants to the procession, which have no experience in taking part with such a large gathering.
