Policemen at the K R Puram station in the City were in for a shock on Thursday morning when a middle-aged man brought a bloodstained gunny bag on his two-wheeler and surrendered to them saying he had murdered a youth.

Riyaz Khan (45) told the police that he slit the throat of Sadique (19) near Bannerghatta. Sadique had an affair with Khan’s minor daughter.

As the police took the body out of the bag, Khan screamed: “It’s me who murdered Sadique for eloping with my 14-year-old daughter. I will neither regret nor repent for this.”Khan, a goods vehicle driver, had moved to Devasandra in K R Puram six months ago. Earlier, he used to stay in Siddapura in south Bangalore.

His daughter, a Class VII student at a Urdu school in Siddapura, and Sadique’s brother were classmates. About a year ago, Sadique met the girl when he had gone to meet his brother in school.

Subsequently, the two fell in love and decided to get married, said the police. Khan turned furious when he learnt about his daughter’s affair. He warned Sadique to stay away from her. Khan even shifted his house hoping that his daughter would forget Sadique. However, the two continued meeting.

The duo eloped on July 30 and Khan finally lodged a missing complaint with the K R Puram police on August 2. Suspecting Sadique to be involved, Khan went to his house looking for his daughter. He was told that Sadique had not come home for two days.

Sadique’s friend, Irfan, told Khan that he would help him if he agreed to get his daughter married to Sadique.

Assuring him of this, Khan asked him to come to his relative’s house in Hongadevanahalli on Bannerghatta Road at 9 pm on Wednesday.

Accordingly, Irfan, Sadique and Khan’s daughter reached the house. Heated arguments broke out when marriage talks began. They decided to resume the discussion the next morning, said the police.

At 6 am, they broached the topic again. Later, Khan took Sadique in a room and slit his throat with a machete. Irfan rushed inside on hearing Sadique’s screams. Khan also attacked Irfan with the machete, injuring him.

Then, he bundled the body in a gunny bag and walked out of the house without saying a word, said the police.

Irfan has been admitted to Nimhans and is out of danger. The case was transferred from KR Puram police station to Bannerghatta police station as the murder took place in that jurisdiction.
