We are committed to the development of Leh and Ladakh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said here Tuesday.

The Ladakh region has "Prakash, Paryavaran and Paryatan (Power, Environment and Tourism)", which is not just for Jammu and Kashmir, but also for the entire country, said Modi after inaugurating a hydropower project.

Addressing troops, Modi lauded the Army personnel for their service to the nation and promised to build a national war memorial.

Modi was received at the Leh airport by state governor NN Vohra, chief minister Omar Abdullah, Ladakh parliamentarian Nawan Rigzin Jora, Chief of Indian Army Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag and senior civil, police and military officials.

Modi is accompanied by Union power minister Piyush Goyal and national security adviser Ajeet Doval.
