<p>Freedom fighter Surendra Koulagi has been selected for this year’s Jamnalal Bajaj award for social service.</p>.<p><br />The award will be presented to the 80-year-old Gandhian in November in Mumbai. It carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh. <br /><br />Koulagi is the founder of the Janapada Seva Trust at Melukote in Pandavapura taluk of Mandya district.<br /> <br />The Trust got recognition from the Khadi and Village Industries Board in the 1970s. It is responsible for better the lives of rural women by providing them self-employment opportunities. <br /><br />Koulagi was born at Gudageri village in Dharwad district and settled in Melukote five decades ago<br />.<br />DH News Service</p>
