Elderly woman raped

A 85-year-old woman was raped by a factory worker at  Nyanappanahalli near Begur on Friday.

The victim, a resident of Nyanappanahalli, was staying in a rented house along with her daughter and grand-daughter who are daily wage workers. On Friday afternoon, the survivor, a chronic drinker, had gone to a bar near her house. She used to beg money and buy alcohol.

The accused Ravi, 30, an employee at a colour-dye factory, carried away her on his shoulders, with people assuming he was her relative and helping her home being in an inebriated state. But later, a few passersby heard the woman screaming from a nearby vacant land, and on investigating, found Ravi sexually abusing her.

He fled the spot noticing people, a police officer said. The police, who were alerted, shifted the woman to a nearby hospital, where medical reports confirmed she was raped. The police who tracked the accused through the mobile phone found on the spot arrested him on Saturday morning.

Two die in mishaps

Chennakeshava, 24, a resident of Dasarahalli, was killed in a road accident near Dasanayakanapalya under the Yeshwantpur traffic police limits.

The victim was on his way to work at around 8 am, when the accident occurred. While trying to overtake from left, his bike’s handle brushed against a lorry. He lost control of the vehicle and fell to the ground, suffering serious head injuries. Passersby rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The lorry driver fled abandoning the vehicle.

In another incident, Suryaprakash, 20, died of the injuries he suffered after he skidded off his bike near BEL underpass. A resident of Shyampura, he had borrowed his friend’s bike and had gone to Muthyalanagar to meet a friend. While returning at around 6 pm, he fell off the bike injuring himself seriously.

He was rushed to hospital but was declared brought dead.

Rowdies detained

Natraj alias Mullu, 30, a resident of K P Agrahara and a rowdy-sheeter, was detained by the police under the Goonda Act for assaulting a shop owner.

A habitual offender, he indulged in assault, robbery, kidnapping, extortion and other criminal activities. Recently, he had threatened a shop owner for money. When the victim refused, Natraj assaulted him with lethal weapons and tried to snatch his gold chain.

The Madiwala police detained ‘Psycho’ Ravi, a resident of Rampura and a habitual offender, under the Goonda Act. He was involved in several acts of kidnapping minor girls and robbing them, rapes and robberies.

On August 20 last year, he had kidnapped a 12-year-old girl from Madiwala, while she was playing near her house, robbed her of her ornaments and abandoned her near Hosur the next evening.

Senior citizen killed

A senior citizen was killed on Saturday night after he came under the wheels of a running BMTC bus near Devaiah Park in Malleswaram traffic police limits.

The police have identified the victim as Sundar B, 74, a resident of Devaiah Park.  The incident occurred at around 7.30 pm when the victim was taking an evening walk. He reportedly lost balance while walking on the pavement and came under the rear wheel of a BMTC bus that was heading towards Basaveshwarnagar from Kempegowda bus station.

The police arrested the bus driver, identified as Mallesh, on the charge of causing death due to negligence, added the police.
