N Ranjitha, a 12-year-old student of Government Higher Primary School for Girls, V V Mohalla in the City, who has been admitted to a hospital, following a near fatal injury suffered on the eve of Indpendence Day,  has been shifted to the ward.

Sources said, Ranjitha was wheeled out of the ICU and shifted to the general ward in the first floor of Vikram Jeev Hospital at Yadavgiri on Saturday. She is responding to the treatment.
Neurosurgeon Dr Maqsood Ahmed, who is treating her since the day she was admitted, met her on Saturday.

Ranjitha was found hanging from the flag post at her school, while she was trying to tie a rope.
A native of Soliga colony, a tribal hamlet Jayapura hobli in the taluk, Ranjitha is the daughter of Naga and Anasuya couple. She is a student of class six at the school.

Students scared

The incident of their schoolmate’s horrendous experience has had a bearing on the remaining students, as a majority of them stayed away from the school on Saturday.

Confirming this to Deccan Herald, Block Education Officer (North) Susheelamma said that barely two to three students attended the school against the total 24 students.

She however exuded confidence that the students will attend the school from Monday onwards.

A majority of the students studying in the school are from the Soligara colony in Jayapura hobli, Mysore taluk. They are the inmates of Pre-matric Girls Hostel near the school.
