'Goonda Act to be invoked against land sharks'

The police might invoke the Goonda Act frequently as a preventive measure to ensure safety of citizens in view of increasing crimes in the City, Police Commissioner M N Reddi has said.

Addressing advocates at the Vakeelara Bhavan on the City Civil Court premises on Tuesday, he said that real estate agents were found to have been involved in land grabbing in cases. “We will invoke Goonda Act in case of forced evictions,” he said.

Referring to tiff between the police and advocates, Reddi said such instances should not be blown out of proportions and they should be tackled amicably. He called upon the advocates and the police to help each other maintain peace and harmony in society.
