DHiE quiz brings out best in schoolkids

Over 220 students from schools across City participated in the inter-school quiz contest for junior category (Std III to VI) and senior category (Std VII to X), organised by Deccan Herald in Education (DHiE) at Bal Bhavan, Cubbon Park, on Wednesday.

From junior group, Subramanya Samy and Dyuthi Ramesh of SJR Public School bagged the first prize.

The second prize was won by Shourin Chakraborty and Divyansh Sharma from HAL Public School and the third prize by Sanath G and Vedant Pandey from Euro School.

Amrit Sodhi and Hari Kartik of St Joseph’s Boys High School won the first prize in senior category.

S Roshan Sameer and Nrupathunga  of Kendriya Vidyalaya, ICSE, the second prize and Shreya Shankar and Saishyam Srikanth from Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Vidyamandir the third prize.

Karnataka Quiz Association Quizmaster Arul Mani, took the teams through preliminary round that covered a vast range of topics in science, geography, history, literature, etc.

As many as 110 teams from senior and junior categories attempted the preliminary round.

The students brainstormed questions like ‘What is the dispute between several countries over a crown (a visual of Queen Elizabeth’s crown)?, ‘A country in Asia named after a King of Spain’, ‘Name the world’s highest waterfall.’

“The main aim of quizzing is problem-solving. Students performed well and every year, the contest turns out in a very interesting way. Questions were prepared from different kinds of subjects,” Arul Mani said.

“It was fun. We are happy that after Spellbee contest, our school has won the quiz. We enjoy participating in quizzing events. The difficulty level adds more fun to the quiz,” said Hari Kartik and Amrit Sodhi, first prize winners in the senior category.
