JOIN USAuto drivers stage protest against ANF
Sources informed that auto driver Subramanya who was driving his vehicle on main road was stopped and assaulted by ANF Constable Harish without any reason. Auto drivers in the city gathered outside Sringeri police station as they came to know that Subramanya’s uniform was torn by Harish. They also staged a road block at the main entrance of the city and burn tyres as mark of resentment. The protesters demanded arrest of Harish as there have been similar incidents of Harish behaving unreasonably even before.
It is said that since senior police officials had been on combing operation in naxal affected areas, the protest was held for several hours. Meanwhile ZP Member Krishnamurthy, Shivashankar, Taluk Panchayat President Nayana, Town Panchayat President Parashar and elected representatives held a talk with the police officials. It was then said that the police had taken two auto drivers into custody and hit them black and blue in the lock up. Hence ZP Member Krishnamurthy, Shivashankar, Taluk Panchayat President Nayana, Town Panchayat President Parashar and other elected representatives staged a protest. DySP Abdul Ahmed visited the spot and enquired about the incident with as many as 8 auto drivers. Additional Superintendent of Police Muthuraya promised the protesters that he will suspend the accused personnel and also take action against the officers who resorted to lathi charge. Lathi charge was done at two spots in the city and several people were injured due to the same.
