Crackdown on power theft

Rs 8.7 lakh fine slapped on a poultry farm, 4 flour mills

The poultry farm, located in Mudikoppa village, Khanapur taluk, was caught stealing power by by-passing the power meter. A penalty of Rs 3,42,464 was imposed and a criminal case was booked.

The flour mills were caught stealing power by tampering with the meter’s seals and adjusting the record of consumption.

One of the mills, located in J  Hadvibhavi village, Kustagi taluk, was caught by the Raichur Vigilance Team of Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company (GESCOM) and was charged Rs  1,23,230.

Another located in Hadnur village, Shorapur taluk, was caught by the Gulbarga MT and  Vigilance Team of GESCOM and was charged Rs. 1,45,651.

Two other mills located in B Gudi village, shorapur Taluk, were caught by Gulbarga Vigilance Team of GESCOM, and were charged Rs 1,35,101 and Rs 1,23,763.

The Inspector-General of Police (Vigilance and Enforcement) has warned that the law provides various provisions allowing for serious action to be taken against those who indulge in theft, pilferage and misuse of power in the State.
