Congress flays BJP's bandh call

Last Updated 04 September 2014, 17:28 IST

Criticising BJP’s Kodagu district bandh call, District Congress President B T Pradeep has questioned the saffron party as to why they didn’t solve the problems which were there during their tenure itself. Bandh call is just an attempt to grab the attention of public, he said.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Pradeep said that the problem of imposing tax on Jamma land was there during the tenure of BJP in the State. The then two BJP MLAs from district had enjoyed speaker and ministerial post in the State cabinet. Though Land Revenue Act was amended, the process of imposing tax was not implemented, he said.

Another main issue raised by the BJP is Kasturirangan report and it is related to Central government. The issue of clearing of encroached land is in High Court. The third issue- RTC problem too was there during their term. About distribution of compensation for those who suffered loss in rain havocs, the issue has been brought to the notice of the District-in-Charge Minister. Once the rain stops, distribution of compensation will begin, he said.

What is MP’s stand?

People are worried about the implementation of Kasturirangan report, which has recommended to ban mining in Western Ghat section. MP Pratap Simha had promised of taking care of people in this regard, but the government has informed Green Tribunal about implementing the report. So, MP should give clarification in this regard, he said. During 80th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Madikeri, BJP leaders used the stage stir for political purpose and protested against Kasturirangan report. Now, what will they answer, he questioned.

Meanwhile, he welcomed the decision of BJP, which would carry a committee of people’s representatives from the district to Delhi to bring the problems of coffee planters to the notice of the Central government.

KPCC Secretary Veena Acchaiah, District Congress General Secretary V P Suresh were present.
