Ulsoor Lake saw a different team of runners recently as The Oberoi, Bengaluru, organised its second annual ‘Run for Saksham’ for SOS Children’s Villages of India.

Having completed a successful awareness campaign to raise funds last year, this was no different. The children and other participants geared by at 6.30 am and set out for the two km and four km run from the hotel around the lake.

It had nearly 100 participants who collectively ran and each participant contributed to the final fund for the organisation. The run was then followed by a lavish breakfast at the hotel and cultural programme that the children put up. The enthusiastic bunch danced to hit songs like ‘Malhari’ from ‘Ram Leela’, ‘Let’s Nacho’ from ‘Kapoor & Sons’ and ‘Nachange Saari Raat’ from ‘Junooniyat’. The audience cheered with excitement at every flip and kick made by the dancers.

Sujatha, one of the students from SOS Children’s Villages of India, gave her testimony on how the organisation is helping her become a chef. She is a Hotel Management student who was inspired to become a chef thanks to their visit to the hotel and experiences shared by the chefs in response.  Titus Poovakulam, the Zonal Director South of the organisation, also addressed the gathering. The event ended with Anshul Kaul, General Manager of The Oberoi, Bengaluru announcing that they raised more than Rs 30 lakh that day.
