Police yet to book MLC for threatening BDA engineer

Although Upa Lokayukta Justice Subhash B Adi directed the Banashankari police to register a case against MLC D U Mallikarjun for allegedly threatening a BDA engineer and submit a compliance report, the police are still ‘verifying the veracity of the complaint.’

The BDA engineer had lodged a complaint with the Assistant Commissioner of Police of Banashankari sub-division after the officials at the Banashankari police station refused to entertain his complaint. The engineer had stated that when he went to demolish some illegal structures on a lake bed in Gubbalala village in Uttarahalli, the MLC threatened him over phone. He even mentioned the phone number in his complaint.

A senior police officer requesting anonymity said: “We have received a complaint from the BDA engineer but we do not know whether the MLC had threatened him. We are verifying the details given by the engineer. It is possible that somebody else would have called the engineer and threatened him.”

The police officer said protection has been provided to the engineer.
