Reshma clinches under-16 title

Rahul bags a grand double in boys under-10 category

 
With both players coming off gruelling semifinal battles, Reshma held her nerve in the closing moments of both games to emerge champion after a 21-14, 21-16 victory. This was after Reshma had partnered Vaishnavi Iyer to pip Poorvisha and Sangeetha Udupa 30-29, 21-16 in an intensly fought under-16 doubles final earlier in the day.

A seventh standard student from Bethany High School, Reshma made a promising start in the singles final by quickly racing to a 5-0 lead. Reshma had her opponent scampering all over the court by mixing baseline rallies with well disguised drop shots.

Poorvisha then plucked four points before Reshma won another five straight points to hold a 10-4 lead.

Poorvisha then counter-attacked to even the match at 14-all. With the first game hanging in the balance, Reshma tilted the scales to her side with a series of smashes that took her to game point before an unforced error from Poorvisha awarded her the game.

The second game was almost a reflection of the first with Reshma getting the better of Poorvisha in the opening moments and the latter rallying during the middle phase. Reshma, though, kept her composure towards the end to seal the encounter.
