BBMP should mobilise resources at its level: CM

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said the BBMP should focus on mobilising resources at its level to address the basic needs of the City.

When reporters brought to his notice that the BBMP mayor had cited lack of funds taking up rain-related measures in the wake of Thursday’s rain that flooded various parts of Bangalore, Siddaramaiah termed mayor’s assertion as meaningless, as it was the prime duty of the BBMP to take stringent measures to collect taxes. It was the responsibility of both officials and elected representatives.

Defending the measures taken on the part of the government, Siddaramaiah said as a precautionary measure most of the storm water drains had been desilted. 

However, copious rains turned the situation worse. Transport and Bangalore district in-charge minister R Ramalinga Reddy and a posse of officials visited the rain affected areas, and directed the officials to take up relief works. The chief minister also described the rains as highest in the last 28 years.
