A 43-year-old property dealer was shot at by an assailant at his office in east Delhi’s Krishna Nagar on Sunday. While the entire attack was captured by a CCTV camera at the office, no suspect has been identified or arrested yet.

Victim Sanjay Mehta received a bullet in the abdomen and is admitted to a private hospital in Patparganj where his condition is said to be serious.

Mehta runs his real estate business at Old Police Station Road area in Krishna Nagar. He was sitting inside his office at 1.40 pm when two men arrived on a motorcycle there. They were both wearing helmets.

“One person went inside Mehta’s office while the other waited outside. Mehta asked the one who went inside to take off his helmet. The assailant instead took out a pistol and fired at Mehta and the bullet hit his abdomen,” a police officer told this newspaper.

Mehta began screaming on being hit and that drew the attention of locals who rushed to the place. His attacker, meanwhile, came out and sped on the motorcycle with his accomplice.

Mehta collapsed and locals informed police. A police control van arrived there and took him to a nearby hospital.

A case of attempt to murder has been registered. The officer said they suspect business or personal rivalry to be the reason behind the attack.

While Mehta’s family and friends are being questioned about his possible enmity with anyone, his statement would be recorded only once doctors declare him fit for statement.
Police said they are scanning the CCTV footage minutely in an effort to get any clue about the identity of the assailant or his accomplice.
