In an incident of road rage, a woman allegedly spit at an autorickshaw driver on Venkatapura Road under Madiwala police limits on Saturday evening.

The police said Sarita, a native of Andhra Pradesh and resident of Victoria Layout, also tried to manhandle and used profanities against the auto driver Prashanth, a resident of Jakkasandra.

At around 7.30 pm, Sarita tried to overtake the auto from the left side. The driver questioned Sarita and asked her to follow traffic rules. Sarita got furious and pulled in front of the autorickshaw. She walked up to the driver and asked him not to teach her traffic rules and spit at him, said the police.

Meanwhile, Prashanth, in a state of shock, called up a few members of Jai Bhuvaneshwari Autorickshaw Drivers’ Union. Soon, public gathered to witness the commotion. When Sarita tried to go back to her car, they stopped her, condemning the act.

The police and the Union members arrived at the spot and took Sarita and Prashanth to the police station.

A senior police officer said: “The driver lodged a complaint stating that she tried to assault him and he could not retaliate as she was a woman. The woman also lodged a counter complaint stating that the localites and the driver tried to manhandle her. Both the complaints have been registered and investigation is on.”

The officer said the driver also mentioned three youths in the car, who tried to assault him. But they were nowhere to be seen when the police arrived.

Rohini Katoch Sepat, DCP (South-East), arrived at the Madiwala police station to enquire about the incident. “While she was questioning them, Sarita continued to abuse the autorickshaw drivers and was talking ill of the local people,” added the officer.
