Hosts Karnataka produced a dominant performance with bat and ball to obtain a handsome first innings lead of 117 runs against Tripura on the first day of the Cooch Behar Trophy on Saturday.

The Karnataka bowling unit, led by Prasidh M Krishna (5/17) destroyed Tripura batting to bowl them out for a paltry 86 after the visitors chose to bat.

Dipayan Debbarama (40) was the lone Tripura batsman to show some resistance as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Aditya Somanna was the other star bowler for the hosts who returned impressive figures of three for 20 in nine overs. Karnataka ended the day’s play at formidable 203 for three.

Openers SP Arjun (50) and AP Abhishek (90 n.o.) gave a perfect start for Karnataka with an 88-run partnership. After the dismissal of Arjun, Tripura picked up two wickets for 25 runs to reduce Karnataka to 113 for three.  Abhishek then joined hands with S Sharath (44 n.o.) to put up a partnership of 90.

Brief scores: Tripura: 86 all out in 33.5 overs (Dipayan Debbarama 40; Prasidh M Krishna 5-17, Aditya Somanna 3-20) vs Karnataka: 203/3 in 55 overs (SP Arjun 50, AP Abhishek 90 batting, S Sharath 44 n.o.).
