'There is a paucity of good scripts'

Impressive role

Scripts still chase veteran actor Anant Nag, who says he literally has no dates to give away.

For the actor, it’s not about signing one project after another but choosing the right kind of roles. This is precisely why he has become a little choosy.

“There is a paucity of good scripts but there are a few young filmmakers, who are coming up with interesting ideas,” feels Anant Nag.

He has always promoted young talent and that is why he almost instantly signed Gadda Viji’s directorial ‘Plus’ in which, he plays a successful industrialist.

He has undergone a complete makeover for the film and dons three different looks.

“It was Viji’s idea that I change my look for the film. Not only is the script very different but the makers have also paid a lot of attention to the look of the character. The film is a thriller and there is nothing pretentious about either the story or the characters,” explains Anant.

He plays the role of an industrialist, whose life is portrayed in two different phases — as a young man who struggles to make a mark and a successful industrialist.

“Different emotions and body language are required for different roles. The character has to switch fast according to the mood of the moment,” states Anant.

Anant has had a pretty long and impressive career but he feels his career will be incomplete without playing certain roles that he has in mind.

“I would like to play the role of a person affected by Alzheimer’s disease. This is happening to people both in India and the West. It pays to play a character like that because a lot of people will connect with it,” he feels.

The shooting for this project has began.

In yet another interesting film, Anant plays the role of a jailer.

“The shooting hasn’t started but I prefer to concentrate on one project at a time. I don’t believe in taking on too many things at the same time,” he signs off.
