Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav may be poking fun at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat campaign, but a family member has not only praised Modi but also asked, though in a subtle manner, the state government to “emulate” him.

Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav’s youngest son Prateek’s wife Aparna cornered Akhilesh’s government though again in a veiled way.

“Modi has become a role model for everyone. He picked up the broom and the entire country has joined him in his mission. We must emulate him,” Aparna said, while speaking at an event here on Wednesday.

Akhilesh had recently remarked that “picking up a broom has become fashionable. There seems to be a broom challenge these days.” Aparna also took a swipe at the style of functioning of the ministers in Uttar Pradesh and said that we would have to work like Narendra Modi. Aparna took an opposite position over the much touted “Women Power Line 1090,” a project launched by the Akhilesh government to ensure women’s safety.

SP sources here said that the remarks by Aparna, who had earlier dropped hints that she could enter politics in the near future, showed that she was “getting ready to take a plunge very soon.”

Prateek, had made it clear that he was not interested in politics. “Politics is not my field of interest,” he had said.
