Verdict in fake encounter case evokes mixed response

Political parties in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday expressed diverse views over the Army’s decision to award life sentence to seven personnel, including two officers, in connection with 2010 Machil fake encounter case.

While mainstream parties welcomed the verdict and called for action in a similar incident in Pathribal, separatists rejected it by saying that it is was an “election stunt.”

The ruling National Conference (NC) welcomed the verdict saying it was a good development which would certainly help in restoring faith in the concept of justice and would give a sense of justice to the families of the victims.
