A 30-year-old sanitary worker with the MCD was shot at by three unidentified men for asking them to make way on a narrow street in east Delhi’s Farsh Bazar on Saturday night.

The victim received two gunshot injuries, but is said to be out of danger.

The three accused are likely to be local criminals, a police officer told Deccan Herald. They have not been identified or arrested yet.

“The victim did not know them personally. He says he could identify them if brought face to face with them,” the officer said.

Nitin Pishavar lives with his wife and an infant son in Shahdara. Police said he is employed as a contractual sweeper by the civic agency.

Altercation
“He was returning home with a friend on a motorcycle on Saturday night when he came across three youths blocking the street. He asked them to make way and that led to an altercation between the two groups of men,” an officer told Deccan Herald.

Within no time, one of the suspects pulled out a pistol and fired thrice at Nitin.
While one bullet missed its mark, he was hit in his waist and arm. Nitin’s friend escaped unharmed. The assailants immediately fled from the spot.

A crowd gathered at the spot and someone informed police.
Nitin was rushed to Dr Hedgewar Hospital, from where he was referred to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital. He is out of danger and has given his statement to police.

A case of attempt to murder has been lodged with Farsh Bazar police station and investigation has begun.
