BSF testing smart border fencing system

Last Updated 26 November 2014, 19:33 IST

Giving  priority for plugging loopholes in border security at the unfenced section along Pakistan and Bangladesh, India will soon have smart fence mechanism as it is looking for technical solutions where fencing is not possible.

“In order to protect the border where fencing is yet to come up or the terrain is challenging, the Border Security Force is considering setting up Motion Sensor Alarms and deploying UAVs for reconnaissance and early warning,” BSF Director General D K Pathak told reporters after releasing the Golden Jubilee logo of the force.

The force has already conducted the trial of these sophisticated and technical smart fencing systems in a 4-km stretch in Jammu and Punjab sectors where fencing with barbed wires is not possible. A motion sensor alarm blips and alerts border guards in case there is movement along the unfenced stretch of the frontier, which is located in difficult terrain.
