UGC member says Smriti's performance is poor

Last Updated 27 November 2014, 21:23 IST

If HRD Minister Smriti Irani wanted people to judge her by performance, she has been faring poorly going by the ‘record’ in the last six months, according to a member of Universities Grants Commission (UGC).

Speaking to Deccan Herald, M M Ansari has dubbed Irani’s performance so far as “awfully disappointing.”  “The minister had said those looking at her from her degree and qualification should judge her by her performance,” Ansari, an economist and former Chief Information Commissioner, said.

“Judging by her performance, which she has told us through the media, I feel her performance has been awfully disappointing,” he added.
The attack comes a day after Ansari had accused Irani of “excessively interfering” in the affairs of the UGC.

One of the nine members of the higher education regulator, Ansari’s term comes to an end in August 2015.

He said the NDA government may have announced new IITs and IIMs, but little has been done to make the institutions established in the last five years as fully operational.
