On the run for the last four years after abducting and murdering the manager of a steel manufacturing unit, a 26-year-old man has finally been arrested.

The murder back then had created ripples among Delhi’s businessmen, police said on Thursday.

The businessman’s driver had been found to have revealed to the other accused that the businessman, Naresh Bhati, was carrying a large sum of cash with him. The motive behind the abduction was robbery, police said.

Driver Arun and one other suspect Mahender had been arrested shortly after the murder. But Kamlesh and Alok had continued to evade police despite more than one unit of Delhi Police being pressed into service to nab them. Bhati was the manager at Krishna Steels in west Delhi’s Najafgarh.

He had left in his Chevrolet Aveo car with much cash one evening in July 2010, but did not reach home. He was being driven by Arun.

The victim’s body was recovered from Sohna in Haryana the next day. The money and the car had been found missing.

Police had declared a reward of Rs 1 lakh each for anyone who would help nab one of the absconding suspects Kamlesh.

One team of Delhi Police’s Special Cell, tasked to arrest criminals carrying rewards on their heads, received a tip-off that Kamlesh would arrive near Karnal Bypass on Tuesday to plan a crime. A trap was laid and he was caught that evening.

Police alleged that during his absconding days, Kamlesh had indulged in a series of other crimes. The nature and other details of those crimes are being probed.
