The police department is keeping strict vigil on the groups resorting to moral policing and taking all possible steps to ensure that such incidents do not recur, City Police Commissioner R Hithendra has said.

Patrolling had been intensified in various parts of the city and no one would be allowed to take law into their hands, he said taking part in an interaction programme organised by the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here last evening.

The Commissioner also said the parents should be more aware of the movements of their wards who were being victimised in such cases. Social networking sites were spreading rumours to create panic in the society.

He said a cyber crime police station would soon be set up in the city and until then the victims of such crimes could approach the police station in their jurisdiction.

Several cases of moral policing have emerged in Mangaluru district with complaints that Hindu and Muslim boys and girls were being prevented from mingling with each other following opposition from fringe elements.
