Wenlock district hospital to get seven new facilities on Dec 5

Seven new facilities at District Wenlock Hospital including STP, modernised mortuary, X-ray ward, DOT plus ward- DRTB centre and club foot care centre will be inaugurated on December 5, at 2.30 pm. Other available facilities are dental care and emergency wards.

Addressing media persons here on Tuesday, District Surgeon and Wenlock Hospital Superintendent Dr Rajeshwari Devi H R said that the hospital is catering to the needs of patients from 14 districts. The STP was set up at an estimated cost of Rs 1.12 crore.

The modernised mortuary is built at a cost of Rs 20.30 lakh. About 16 dead bodies can be kept in the mortuary (earlier capacity was eight). It also has LED lights and drinking water facility.

Around Rs 15 lakh has been utilised for the emergency ward and Rs 45 lakh for the X-ray ward. Now, in association with A J Institute of Dental Science, the hospital will provide various dental treatments. Meanwhile, she said that the hospital has a new 12-bedded semi-ICU.

There will be seven ventilators in semi-ICUs. The patient who is in ICU can be shifted to semi-ICU, according to improvement in health conditions. Club foot care centre will be launched in association with Cure International India Trust.

DOT Plus- DRTB centre

District Health Officer Dr Ramakrishna Rao said Drug Resistance Tuberculosis Centre (DRTC) is built at a cost of Rs 10 lakh. It is not a shelter for the TB patients, but here patients are treated according to their condition.

When first-level treatment fails, second-level treatment will be started and they would be admitted to the centre. A trained psychiatrist and physician will attend patients. Now, three patients are getting treatment in the centre and the maximum capacity of the centre is six, he said.

In the formal function which will be organised by Dakshina Kannada District Administration, Zilla Panchayat and Family and Family Welfare Department and Wenlock District Hospital at RAPCC Hall of the hospital on December 5, District-in-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai, Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader, Youth Service, Sports and Fisheries Minister K Abhaychandra Jain, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel will inaugurate various facilities. MLA J R Lobo will preside over the function.
