JOIN USThe City police recently uncovered the whereabouts of a British national with a pending non-bailable warrant, who fled the country with a fake passport.
Fugitive Paul Meekin, 40, accused of engaging in online sex chats with a 13-year-old boy, is now believed to be a school teacher in Kuwait. The City police have decided to act against him.
“It is said that Meekin used a fake passport and fled to Kuwait,” City Police Commissioner M N Reddi told Deccan Herald. “We have decided to approach the Interpol and issue a red corner notice against him. We are thoroughly probing the matter. We will bring him back to India and produce him before court,” Reddi added. A senior officer said that the matter will come up for hearing in the magistrate court on January 24, 2015.
Meekin hails from Southport, Lancshire, and was a head teacher at the Trio World School in the City, an international school favoured by British expats. He was arrested by the Kodigehalli police in January 2012 after the parents of a UK-based boy lodged a complaint against him. They accused him of passing lewd comments on their son’s Facebook page. He had even taken the boy to Goa without the parents’ knowledge.
The school had dismissed him on January 23 after a case was registered against him. He had submitted a PhD certificate awarded by the University of Sheffield to seek employment.
During the probe, it came to light that the certificate was fabricated. The school management, where he is currently employed, confirmed his identity through a photograph.
