CA hangs himself, blames 3 friends for blackmailing him

A 24-year-old chartered accountant with a private firm hanged himself at his home in east Delhi’s New Usmanpur late on Sunday.

He left behind a suicide note in which he blamed three friends of blackmailing him.
Police said they have registered a case of abetment to suicide against the three accused youths, two of whom are not known victim Dinesh Kumar’s family.

Police said they are yet to trace and interrogate the third accused Monu. Any arrest would be made only after the role of the friends in the suicide would be established, said police.

“It was a brief suicide note written in English. Dinesh has accused his three friends of blackmailing him and implicating him,” a police officer told Deccan Herald. However, over what issue he was being blackmailed will be learnt only after interrogation of the three, he added.

Kumar worked as a CA with a private firm in Noida and lived with his parents and elder brother in east Delhi’s Ghonda. His father Amar Singh and brother ran a garments shop in Gandhi Nagar.

Singh told police that the family had found Kumar to be worried over the last two days before he killed himself. When the family had spoken to him, he had mentioned about being troubled by his friends, but had not detailed the issue to them. Instead, he had told them that the matter would be solved soon, police said, quoting his father.

The family again spoke to him on Sunday and he appeared to have considerably recovered from his depression. He excused himself to his room on another floor of the building after dinner.

His mother went to see him later that night only to find him hanging from the ceiling fan in his room. Police were informed and the body brought down and sent for a post-mortem.

Based on the contents of the suicide note and the statement of Kumar’s father, officers at New Usmanpur police station have registered a case of abetment to suicide.
