Breaking the image

Sanjjanaa has decided to take a break and head to Dubai for a couple of days to spend some quality time with her friends. “I am shooting during Christmas and I am performing on New Year’s eve so this is the only time I can take a break. I couldn't think of a better place than Dubai,” says Sanjjanaa.

In her latest project, ‘Cinema My Darling’, she plays the character of Devaayani.
“The story traces the life of an item girl who is modern, loud and outgoing on stage but in reality, she is a simple person. It is challenging to portray extreme emotions for this role,” she adds.

Sanjjanaa confesses that this is the kind of script that she has been wanting to work on for a long time. “The story delves into the struggles of a young girl from a small town trying to make it big in the film industry. It looks at all the dimensions in the film industry such as competition, work atmosphere, renumeration....

There are a lot of real elements packed into the film,” she adds. She says her role in the film goes beyond just that of an item girl.

“A lot of people mistook me for doing only an item number, but my character plays the lead in the film. She is not just the heroine but in a lot of ways she’s also the hero of the script,” she says.

“The script is as original as it can get and isn’t inspired by other film or language,” she states.  Sanjjanaa is paired opposite debutant Vihaan Gowda in the film and notes that she admires his confidence.

“He’s pretty much playing himself in the film. You always tend to learn a great deal when you act with newcomers. He plays the character of a budding star,” she states.
Actress Sanjjanaa has become bolder in choosing her roles. She is playing the role of a ghostbuster in a Telugu
project titled ‘Avanu-2.

“It’s not a run-of-the-mill ghost story. It is a little hi-tech where this ghostbuster uses a gadget to detect ghosts.

I think it’s a very innovative way of presenting the ancient tradition of spotting spirits,” she explains. Sanjjanaa further states that she didn’t think twice when she was offered this role. “This ghostbuster is well-informed, educated and well-versed in detecting spirits. We’ve used technology quite effectively in this context,” she states.
