We will move Lokayukta over NREGS irregularities: Varthur

 
“The ambitious project formulated by the Union government aimed at generating employment for the rural poor should not be misused for making money. The officers, supposed to ensure successful implementation of the scheme are displaying utter laxity. There have been numerous complaints alleging large-scale irregularities in NREGS and a complaint will be lodged to Lokayukta in this regard,” the MLA said at the Janaspandana programme held in Muduvatti village of the taluk on Saturday.

Varthur said that public have complained against style of functioning of Social Welfare, Women and Child Welfare Department and Revenue Department. Inordinate delay is being caused in sanctioning various allowances to the poor and other beneficiaries.

Steps should be taken to forward the sanction letter to the treasury on the same day to ensure payment of the allowance in a span of one month, the MLA directed tahsildar Mangala.

Engineer absent

Taking serious note of the absence of Assistant Executive Engineer of Zilla Panchayat engineering, Varthur said that he will write to Deputy Commissioner to take action against the absentee officer.

Sanction letters to 440 beneficiaries were issued on the occasion. Zilla Panchayat member Balaji Chennaiah, Taluk Panchayat president V B Udaya Shankar, executive officer A Manjunath and taluk-level officers were present on the occasion.
