A woman sub-inspector of Delhi Police was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.

The CBI claims that the accused, identified as Sarla, was caught red-handed. Sarla is posted with the Crime against Women Cell at the office of Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ajay Kumar.

The incident comes a week after another sub-inspector was arrested for accepting a bribe.

“A case was registered on a complaint alleging that the sub-inspector was demanding a bribe,” said CBI spokesperson R K Gaur. It was also learnt that Sarla was allegedly threatening the complainant to get her bail cancelled in a criminal case. Sarla was the investigating officer of the case.

“We laid a trap and the sub inspector was arrested while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000,” Gaur added. Raids have also been conducted at Sarla’s house in Ghaziabad and she will be produced before the court on Saturday.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) told Deccan Herald that they have not been informed about the arrest by CBI.

“Sarla did not report for duty on Friday and we have only heard that she has been arrested by the CBI,” the officer said.

Police are waiting for an official confirmation and a report by the CBI to initiate action against Sarla.

“We will also take the statement of the complainant and may file a separate case,” the officer added.

On November 27, Delhi Police sub-inspector Dayaram was also arrested by the CBI for accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000. Dayaram was posted with Chanakyapuri police station.
