Actor-director Roopa Iyer has been concentrating on direction for a while now and wishes to start acting only when something really big and worthwhile comes her way. On the filmmaking front, she has finished working on two scripts. One is an action-thriller while the other is inspired by a real story.

Roopa has been contemplating launching fight master Ravi Verma as a hero for a long time now. “Ravi has been busy in Bollywood. The fight sequences of ‘Action Jackson’ were conceptualised by him and he has worked with some of the biggest names in the film industry. I thought I should script a film just for him,” says Roopa. The movie, in which Roopa intends to cast Ravi, is based on child trafficking. “Ravi is good with action so this film will have lots of it,” she adds.

Sometime ago, she had read about a plane crash in the United States of America in which the only survivor was a child. “The plane crashed in a tribal belt with the child surviving it. We intend to knit a story around this true story. It’s a patriotic film about how the child yearns to go back to his country and reunite with his family,” she states.

Roopa is not only passionate about her movies but also pursuing her altruistic dreams. She has now decided to devote time to a calender called ‘The Blind Photographers Project’. As the name suggests, this is for the cause of the visually impaired and she plans to rope in some of her celebrity friends from across the country.

She points out that the purpose behind the project is to bring people together and provide eyesight to visually impaired children. “How does it feel to be blindfolded? We plan to blindfold people, including a few celebrities who come on board for the project and get them to click pictures based on the sounds that they hear. We will also have a few visually impaired children doing this. I plan to work with Jason Glen Kotian from Mumbai for this project,” she explains.

Roopa says that she decided to take up the cause after hearing about the increasing number of cases of eye cancer among children. “The money collected from the calender will be donated towards curing people with eye cancer,” she signs off.
