Youth caught for murdering 5-year-old girl over ransom

A youth has been arrested for killing a five-year-old girl in north-east Delhi’s Gokulpuri in September.

The 24-year-old had kidnapped the girl to demand ransom from her family, police said on Monday.

Firoz lives with his family in Brijpuri. On September 30, a PCR call was received at Gokulpuri police station reporting that the girl had been missing from her house in Chand Bagh. A case of kidnapping was registered. A search was conducted, but the girl was not located.

On October 4, an information was received at Gokulpuri police station that a body of a girl had been found near Johripur Nala. “The body was identified as that of the missing girl,” said R A Sanjeev, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East).

Accordingly, section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code was added in the case. The body was handed over to her family after a post-mortem on October 7 in Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.

Thorough monitoring of CCTV camera footage was done and local intelligence was gathered after which Firoz was arrested near Brijpuri bus stand on Saturday.

“Firoz kidnapped the girl to extort money from her parents, but smothered her when she tried to raise an alarm,” Sanjeev added. He lated dumped the body in Johripur Nala.
