Huawei, the Chinese telecom giant, will be setting up the largest development centre in Bengaluru. The centre is expected to be inaugurated in a couple of weeks, reports DHNS from New Delhi.

Addressing a session at the Deccan Herald National Conference on “Shaping the 21st Century: India, China and the US,” former Union minister Jairam Ramesh said he was told by Chinese Ambassador Le Yechung that the company will soon start operations from the silicon city.

“This morning the Chinese ambassador was telling me that in a couple of weeks, Huwaei is going to inaugurate its largest development centre outside China in Bengaluru. A lot of development work (by Huwaei) that would be done in Bengaluru will be for the American market. It will not be for the Indian market. It will not be necessarily for the Chinese market,” he said. Huwaei would be competing directly with the US telecom provider Cisco, he added.

As he advocated the need for extensive economic cooperation between the three countries, Ramesh said, “certainly one area the three countries can find themselves sailing in the same boat than sailing in three boats is manufacturing. The others could be software and pharmaceutical sector.”
