Fake certificate racket busted in R'than

After series of paper leak incidents in the state, the special operation group of Rajasthan Police has busted a gang involved in providing fake university certificates and degrees to students.

The special operation group (SOG) has arrested three members of the gang and recovered 50 fake degrees of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, along with documents of various students. All the degrees belong to Jodhpur National University, a private university that was opened four years back.

“We have arrested three persons involved in providing fake degrees of Jodhpur National University. Of them, Manoj Pareek belongs to Jaipur and runs his own institute in Mansarovar area. The other two belong to Chittorgarh and Bhilwara,” said an SOG officer.

Initial investigation revealed that Pareek is also working as coordinator in Jodhpur National University. Police are probing into the possible involvement of several other university employees in this racket.

The police are probing the possible involvement of other university employees and trying to find out how many students got fake degrees from the gang.

Police said Pareek and his gang members would sell a degree for Rs 40,000-50,000 to the students. To avoid any risk, money was taken in demand draft on the name the institute that was being run by Pareek in Jaipur.

Investigations also revealed that Pareek would take money to ensure students good marks in the university examination. Pareek would provide blank answer sheets to the students to write the answers at their home. Later, he would replace these answer sheets with the original kept in the record section of the university. A hefty amount was charged for providing this facility.

Police said university administration had earlier lodged a complaint with police saying unidentified persons were trying to contact their students through fake university email ids.
