“We have expelled these 18 students from the college hostel. But they will continue their studies,” the dean of Seth G S medical college and the KEM hospital at Parel Dr Sanjay Oak said.

“The step was taken after a meeting with civic body officials. We have also reported to the police about this decision,” he added.
The hospital authorities also decided that the 18 students in question will not be allowed to represent the medical college in any public forum. They will not be eligible for scholarships.
Ten first year physiotherapy students had filed a complaint against their seniors including some intern doctors, alleging that they were asked to strip and perform mock sexual acts at a New Year’s party last week.

The 18 students and intern doctors, all aged between 18 to 25 years, have been booked under various sections of the IPC and the Maharashtra Prohibition of Ragging Act. A probe by the anti-ragging committee of the college has also been ordered into the allegation.
They were arrested following an FIR lodged by the hospital after the anti-ragging committee of the college conducted a probe into the allegation.
