The Animal Welfare Board of India has submitted seven complaints to the Mulki police citing violation of rules during the Mulki Arasu Kambala held on Thursday.

However, no FIR has been filed and the Kambala organisers have been asked to give in writing that they will not violate the rules henceforth.

People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) Director Dr Manilal and Kaustub Pal of Animal Welfare Board of India had recorded the Kambala held at Mulki. According to the Animal Welfare Board of India, the organisers at the event violated several laws.

Using two to three thick nose ropes inserted through the same hole in the nasal septum causing pain to the animals, splashing slush water on the buffaloes, transporting the animals in an inhuman manner were some of the violations noticed.

“The  safetymeasures to unload the buffaloes from vehicles were insufficient, and no veterinary care was available, even though hundreds of buffaloes were used in the event,” the Animal Welfare Board members noted. The Kambala committee members gave in writing to not violate rules.
