Vehicular traffic density in Chamarajanagar has been on the rise since the past few years. Vehicles plying towards and coming from Tamil Nadu have to pass through the city, contributing to the traffic density.

So, a Ring Road was planned outside Chamarajanagar city limits to ease traffic flow. Even though inauguration for the works on the Road was held a few years ago, the works have come to a standstill owing to the apathy of officials concerned and elected representatives.

During the visit of Urban Development Minister Vinaykumar Sorake, two months ago, discussions regarding the issue was taken up. Local MLAs had expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of works, despite funds to the tune of Rs 5.73 crore released to the Public Works department. However, officials highlighted technical issues related to the works during the meeting, which they said was the cause for the delay in works.

Coordination
As per the blueprint, the Ring Road, 30 metre wide, was to be 14 km long. About 105 acres of land was to be acquired for the project.

However, due to lack of coordination between departments, works on the Ring Road, estimated to cost of Rs 50 crore, has been delayed.

Manikanta, a resident of the city, said, Ring Roads were integral for the development of a city. “If the works are completed, traffic density will reduce and make the city roads safer for pedestrians,” he said.
