The bold and the beautiful

The bold and the beautiful

Fashion changes by the minute as designers are constantly innovating to come up with something new.

The year 2014 saw some bold and funky designs hitting the ramp and designers predict that the scene will be even better in 2015.

According to designer Manoviraj Khosla, velvet designs  ruled the roost in 2014. “Velvet suits, innovative denims, linen pants and trousers ruled the men’s fashion category. Hot bright shades in both clothing and shoes were in vogue too for men. Different shades and innovative colours also had a lot of takers. The innovative denims will continue to rule in 2015 as well.”

And for women, Manoviraj says he saw a lot of printed and plain dresses, jumpsuits and long gowns doing the rounds. “Jumpsuits were very popular in 2014. The palazzos and high waist pants will continue into the new year as well. Loose-fitted pants and innovative styles in denims will also be in,” he adds.

The men in the City agree. Aqib, a model, says, “Thanks to the unpredictable weather of Bengaluru, it was a little tricky to decide what to wear.  With the new year and summer approaching, I think three-fourth pants and T-shirts will be the most preferred.”

Namratha G, who has carved a niche for herself in both Indian and Western wear, observes that men and women have a definite taste when it comes to fashion. “For women, the trend of ‘anarkali’ is fading away.

Tunics and long gowns were in fashion last year and will continue into the new year too. Even clothing with frills is moving out,” she states.

She points out that the clothes with lesser structure will be in vogue along with silhouette clothing with less or no embroidery.  “And for the boys, loose clothes have now become over the top. High waist pants for both men and women will be the trend in 2015,” she adds.

Designer Paresh Lamba feels that the fashion scene in the country has seen a number of trends last year. For men, Paresh states that ‘bandi’ topped the list.

“Also known as the ‘Modi’ jacket in recent times, this sleeveless jacket can be worn with short ‘kurta’ and ‘dhoti’ pants for a wedding or a shirt and Jodhpur breeches otherwise,” he adds. According to Ambika, a professional, “Crop tops were sought-after the whole year. The vintage retro look was also in for quite sometime. I love floral clothing and I think it will trend in the new year too. A floral bottom with a crop top for the coming summer can definitely make a statement.”

Surabhi Hullikunte, a professional, says, “Palazzos trended in 2014 and they were my favourite as they were comfortable and stylish. The crop tops and jumpsuits too made their rounds. According to me, high-waist pants and denim leggings might continue to trend in 2015.”
