With the two Telugu speaking states yet to agree on release of water downstream for Kharif crops and power generation in Nagarjuna Sagar, Telangana on Saturday announced that it will not release water from Krishna river to Andhra Pradesh for irrigating the Rabi crops.

Addressing a press conference, Telangana irrigation minister T Harish Rao said the state will not give up its share of water in the basin awarded by the Bachawat Tribunal and claimed that the AP had already used 8 TMC ft of excess water in addition to their allocation of 321 TMC ft.

“Telangana is entitled to 229 TMC and AP has 321 TMC. But AP has already used 329 TMC and is asking for more,” Rao said.
